Description kendal.newell 2020-09-22 14:19:04 UTC
SUMMARY
Whenever the motion freeze (freeze frame) is inserted into a video, the render will crash every single time when it gets to the freeze frame. It also mentions something about AVcodec needing to be replaced with AV.codecpar, which I have searched and found is something on Ubuntu or Linux platforms and not windows. I also found that the bug was supposedly fixed, but it seems to not work for me on Windows. I have to take a screenshot of the part I want to freeze and insert it as a .png because freeze kills the render.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Insert video
2. Use Freeze effect
3. Render video

OBSERVED RESULT
Video render crashes at the point of the freeze frame every time

EXPECTED RESULT
video should render normally

Thanks for your report! Can you please update to the latest version (https://kdenlive.org/en/download/) and report here whether this is still happening?

If it is still relevant: can you provide what it says exactly about "AVcodec needing to be replaced with AV.codecpar" (error log or something would be great). Also the link to the information you found about the bug can maybe help us.
Comment 2 Vincent PINON 2021-02-25 15:35:14 UTC
the AVcodec warning is something we are carrying for loong time in MLT.
only recently I have seen updates in MLT avformat producer to use newer FFmpeg API (related to HW decoding), I don't remember if it landed in v6 or v7 branch (to be released).
But to my knowledge it has always been just a warning we see everywhere, but not a crash cause...
