WebOS TV Open Source, This could give Hardware-Info over HDMI

Description blackcrack 2020-08-07 13:29:04 UTC
KDE / Plasma have a Problem with Higher Resolutions like 4K or 8K
over nvida-card (here at me a GTX 660 TI at an HDMI to a LG UK6400PLF)an UHD TV it can easy not start and not stay stable.

i have Test it at Openmandriva 4.x and Fedora 32,

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
==========================

1st. try
1. create a bootmedium with OpenMandriva or Fedora KDE-Spin
2. boot therewith
3. and the Plasma will crash..
---------------------------------------

2nd. Try
1. create a bootmedium with openmandriva 4.0
2. system is started, go to console with control+alt+F2
3. install in the squash fs task-lxqt,'echo "exec startlxqt" > .xinitrc'
4. startx
5. Xorg started, can open calamares and install the system..
---------------------------------------
3st. try
1. OpenMandriva installed, but hangs at sddm
2. go to tty2 kill sddm, create a .xinitrd file with exec startlxqt,
it has start and i be in able to work into..
3. edit .xinitrc again add startplasma and start X again..
4. KDE/Plasma hangs again...

---------------------------------------
4. Try
Create a Bootmedium with Fedora32 KDE/Plasma-Spin
Boot therewith up to the Plasma-Logo... then nothing happens anymore..

the best resolution in WinNT is 2560x1440, this should be as Standard
resolution if the TV/Display supports more as 4K.
In WinNT works it very well and if i install the Nvidia Drivers works also the sound of the TV over HDMI.

OBSERVED RESULT

It's flawless a Bug in Plasma.

EXPECTED RESULT
Plasma should work on 4K or also at 8K
We are at 2020 (so in the Future ;))
i want install my loved KDE ;)
Kernel, coreutils and tools works still fine..
but Plasma with an Higher resolution not..
(or is it due to HDMI? Can not be, other WM works..)

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: WinXP, Win7/Win10 works
macOS: -
Linux/KDE Plasma: all versions of Plasma works not
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: ..i guess all version

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
nothing..

Taked Redora Workstation with gnome(sorry of this hurts),

5.Try

taked Fedora Standart Workstation install Iso
https://getfedora.org/de/workstation/download/

It has works up to reboot and Login as User with a working Desktop..
hast the possible to configuration updating ad setting up the System in all forms.

KDE-Programmer Team -have- a Issue..

i guess the problem is, like i have fount out.. to check not correectly the resolution possibility's and filtering out the right Resolutions don't use therewith the right Resolutions , because the TV stay in Black if KDE Started..
or hang .. and stops the system..
and i guess, therewith must be bugfixed the automated setting up Resolutions setup Stack of it.. so, i am fresh here (but longer as since Stuttgart Linuxday at KDE) and i have wrote this issues at the first issues in general/after all,
so please help me a bit if i have setting up this issues on the wrong plase .. Thank you :)

best regards
Blacky

Gnome works so far.. okey..
add RPMFusion to Fedora32 and
have installed nvidia-drivers from..

it has works.. and all was run fine include Nvidia-Drivers,
then have i start to install plasma-workspace
all so far (exept a couples needed packet's) was installed
and add the sddm as starter....
i had the hope to works Plasma on Nvidia better.. and this whant i directly testing.. so let'z gonna try ...
stopping the gdm and disable.. and try to start sddm.. ooookeeyy it works so far....
!it works! i have Fire!

so, now try it out to let's start the plasmadesk ..
and... it has works !
A bit oversized, but has works now...
then have i play a bit with nvidia-settings around
to make the Size correctly and the Resolution.. Human readable ;)

i guess it's a Thing of the displaydriver nouveau <=> Plasma

i have see also a error in the Gnome-desktop where i have try to start a KDE-Application with this oversized Screen.. well Gnome-Desktop Works, just not the plasma desktop with nouveau, there should looked on what's there wrong..

Also a kcm tool for handle the resolution and scaling for KDE-Desktop and the GTK2/3 would be really good for the possible to be in able for handle that Scaling with the icons Fonts and so on in both Surfaces.

Sounds like a driver issue that you should report to the Nouveau developers. Thanks!
Comment 6 blackcrack 2020-08-10 19:57:35 UTC
well, Gnomedesktop and other Desktop works well..
but KDE/Plasma not with nouveau drivers..
what's there wring ? Because only Plasma works not..
i be to less programmer for know directly what's goes on..
but once do i know.. Plasma have a Problem, other WM's not..

so it's easy to say it's a nouveau problem, no, on other Desktops works it..

Nvidia-Settings/Configuration in WinNT

and the Result at the whole is,
you can not install Plasma-releated Distributions on
a UHD Screen, because KDE want make his own thing,
use the wrong resolution and the UHD-TV get a black screen.

i have here the possibility to use a 4096x2160 resolution
with 60Htz and is native
Possible be also => Look Picture, but this is a thing of nouveau Driver..
but the nouveau driver works of the nativ resolution, but Plasma Hardware- recognition , discovery, identification to not works well on hdmi + UHD Resolution, because because the information simply does not exist in kde
 hardware recognition.
And therewith it is impossible to install a Linux-Distribution on a Computer with a hdmi - UHD Screen. All exit Linux-Distributions.. with KDE/Plasma

Nvidia-Settings/Configuration in WinNT 2
Comment 9 blackcrack 2020-08-12 08:50:49 UTC
add subsequently installed kscreen,
kde/plasma wont work behind sddm
started gnome-desktop
open systemsettings5
disable "kscreen 2" service in systemsettings5
logged out from Gnome-desktop
and started again the plasma-desktop
then have it works again ...

and i have access to the DPI contiguration/Adjusting of the Monitor configuration.

so be 2 things, once nouveau drivers and kscreen-service
best

WebOS TV Open Source, This could give Hardware-Info over HDMI

https://github.com/topics/webos-tv

https://github.com/danjohnson95/LGTV-node with Java
https://github.com/Kvanrooyen/WebOS-Remote over Phython application

therewith could normally kscreen read out all technical information over WebOS
Webos is Open Source, by start of Kscreen could it test if Web0S connectibal and if yes, read out all technical informations and the possible resolutions.

Also could it be possible over Plasma/KDE use Webos-application if a WebOS connected over HDMI if is possible ofver a connectable API for Webos in Plasma

this could be great possible for plasma, include a programming remote control in Plasma for Web0S ;)
