My situation is somewhat related to this as well, as some of the apps that I am using (Sublime Text, Telegram with Flatpak to name a few) are using the generic Wayland icon. For X, this is no problem. A possibly relevant merge request was started @ https://invent.kde.org/network/smb4k/-/merge_requests/2 Either those apps don't define an "Icon=" field in there .desktop file or the file is missing /misinstalled or the app does not provide the metadata necessary for Wayland to find the desktop file which is the case for smb4k. Dave: Please open a different bug for each app in their respective bug trackers.
