Hi, I suspect that the thumbnailing feature of Dolphin might take up a lot of RAM (given that you only have 2.8 GiB, that is not surprising) which could lead to an unresponsive system. Could you check in the system monitor (e.g. ksysguard) whether that is true or not? Thanks :) Dear Bug Submitter, This bug has been in NEEDSINFO status with no change for at least 15 days. Please provide the requested information as soon as possible and set the bug status as REPORTED. Due to regular bug tracker maintenance, if the bug is still in NEEDSINFO status with no change in 30 days the bug will be closed as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME due to lack of needed information. For more information about our bug triaging procedures please read the wiki located here: https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Bug_triaging If you have already provided the requested information, please mark the bug as REPORTED so that the KDE team knows that the bug is ready to be confirmed. Thank you for helping us make KDE software even better for everyone! Created attachment 130960 [details]

Hello, Thank you for your response. I am attaching the screenshot pls check. My system has also become very slow after installing Kubuntu. needed details updated Thank you for your follow-up. It seems like the problem lies not within Dolphin but Baloo, our file indexer. Please try the following steps: 1. Open System Settings 2. Go to "Search" 3. Untick "Activate file indexing" (might be called slightly differently) 4. Restart your system This will deactivate Baloo. This means that some features (searching in file content for example) will not work anymore, but for a computer like yours that doesn't have a lot of memory, it makes sense to disable Baloo. Please report back if this helps or if the system still hangs when you open Dolphin. (Oh, and you don't have to change the status of the bug report - we'll do that for you once you answer.) I have disabled the file search option, is that what you meant? It shows : file search enables you to quickly locate all you files based on your content. I cannot see one with the name Activate file Indexing Also, I could see the following processes running on my system at startup: ``` 3616 20 0 362536 10076 4448 S 0.3 0.3 0:01.13 /usr/bin/akonadi_akonotes_resource --identifier akonadi_akonotes_resource_0 3619 20 0 361680 8680 4308 S 0.3 0.3 0:00.62 /usr/bin/akonadi_contacts_resource --identifier akonadi_contacts_resource_0 3627 20 0 436036 10620 5776 S 0.3 0.4 0:01.01 /usr/bin/akonadi_maildispatcher_agent --identifier akonadi_maildispatcher_agent 3632 20 0 1037640 23432 3332 S 0.3 0.8 0:01.11 /usr/bin/akonadi_mailfilter_agent --identifier akonadi_mailfilter_agent 3637 20 0 521988 12576 6332 S 0.3 0.4 0:01.14 /usr/bin/akonadi_notes_agent --identifier akonadi_notes_agent 844 root 20 0 784720 60728 48160 S 2.3 2.1 4:26.87 /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg -nolisten tcp -auth /var/run/sddm/{4677a426-3914-4763-97f5-92dec7e9e9bb} -background none -noreset + 1730 20 0 3135212 34524 26480 S 2.3 1.2 3:31.53 /usr/bin/kwin_x11 -session 1035032e2ac261000159474571400000011810008_1597766823_327575 1721 20 0 276392 6520 5632 S 0.3 0.2 0:00.99 /usr/bin/ksmserver 1745 20 0 2472512 147196 81952 S 1.3 5.0 0:59.15 /usr/bin/plasmashell 5186 root 20 0 0 0 0 I 1.0 0.0 0:00.83 [kworker/u16:0-phy0] 1791 20 0 403400 11148 9652 S 0.3 0.4 0:01.04 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/org_kde_powerdevil 1821 20 0 7216 2832 2428 S 0.3 0.1 0:00.13 /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --config-file=/usr/share/defaults/at-spi2/accessibility.conf --nofork --print-address 3 1 root 20 0 167472 5780 3892 S 0.0 0.2 0:01.89 /sbin/init splash ```.. Can you tell me whether they are mandatory for system functioning ? Can I disable them , if so how, so that I can free up some memory if applicable..? Right, this was only recently changed, in your version it was still called only file search. You haven't said if that helped or not, but I assume it didn't. Is that correct? Regarding startup: you can uninstall Akonadi, but this will also remove KMail, KOrganizer and a few other PIM applications. If you don't use these, that would be a good option. The other applications are essential and shouldn't be removed unless you really know what you are doing.
