SUMMARY
kbuildsycoca5 that's called by the setup just hangs indefinitely. digikam.exe also hangs when started.
Problem only exists on one computer on one user. A newly created user does not have this problem.
No debug output from kbuildsycoca5.exe or digikam.exe.
Version 6.4 works on the same user.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. call kbuildsycoca5.exe

OBSERVED RESULT
Console windows with no output.

EXPECTED RESULT
2 lines of output, then closing

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: 10 19041.388

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
User profile has been cleaned from former config files and anything QT related that has been found in profile dir and registry.
Process Monitor does not give any hints what could be a problematic file or registry entry.

Download and start DebugView from Microsoft. Start digiKam and give us the output in DebugView.

The cause can also be an antivirus program or similar if a simple program like kbuildsycoca5.exe is already hanging.

Another option would be a set environment variable that is relevant for Qt or KF5.

Debugview gives not a single line of output on my main user profile.
A newly created user does fine. I just use the Microsoft Antivirus and already tried with it disabled.

I wonder what has been changed in the QT libs between digiKam version 6.4 and 7.0 to behave like this on my user profile.

The environment variables are the same for my user and a new one.

Forget to mention that I even tried to start the kbuildsycoca5.exe in Windows safe mode, just to rule out any running apps and other things. But still the same, works on a new user, but not on my own profile (a year old exactly).
Comment 5 kde 2020-07-25 22:05:47 UTC
Tested a bit more and swapped the QT and KF5 libs from version 6.4.
kbuildsycoca5.exe would run normally with the older DLLs. DigiKam obviously not, but at least it must be something in the libs that interferes with my user profile.

Not reproducible with 7.3.0 pre-release installer. Closed
