I assume you'll see the same problem with any other program (try with any other graphics program like gimp or krita, etc.) I suggest to try a different graphics driver, since llvmpipe renders in software. I uninstalled the Deb package & installed the more recent snap package, and I am not experiencing the slow down, with the bonus, I have more options.
