SUMMARY
This issue is 95% reproducible with the steps below.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. open system settings > startup and shutdown
2. click on "Get new login screens..." and immediately close the window
3. go to "Splash Screen" kcm
4. click on "Get new splash screens" button and immediately close the window
5. close System Settings
6. try to reopen System Settings: you can not because systemsettings5 process got stuck in the memory when System Settings was closed


EXPECTED RESULT
systemsettings5 process should always be completely terminated when System Settings is closed

Instead I get the issue that it is crashing, like BUG 416328.

I can reproduce this issue only on Wayland (sometimes System Settings crashes as reported in bug 424334 instead). When I follow the steps provided here on X11, System Settings always crashes as reported in bug 424334.

This is not a Wayland-specific issue. I can reproduce this on X11 (master). It's not always reproducible, but it's more reproducible after the message "Loading data" of the Login screen GHNS appears, or after the window is fully loaded.

However if you close the Login screen window too fast with either mouse or keyboard  (before "Loading data" appears) and click the button of the Splash screen GHNS, it results in a crash, the backtrace seems similar to bug 416328.

All GHNS windows were already ported to new style and this problem no longer occurs. :)

Nevermind. I was able to reproduce on Arch Linux running Plasma 5.22 beta
repeating the provided steps 3 times. :(

Sorry, the steps were different, not the same.

1. open GHNS window of Task Swicher KCM and close it immediately
2. open GHNS window of Kwin Scripts KCM and closed it immediately
3. close System Settings
4. try to reopen System Settings: you can not because systemsettings5 process got stuck in the memory
