Description hansonj 2002-05-09 23:17:43 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kmail
Version: 1.4.1 (using KDE 3.0.0 -10)
Severity: normal
Installed from: Red Hat Linux 7.2.93
Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.3 2.96-110)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.18-3smp
OS/Compiler notes:

I use qmail for my MTA and I'm using the Maildir format. I started up KMail and configured my Maildir folder as ~/Maildir. Upon receipt of mail KMail does not look in ~/Maildir (new unread messages will actually be placed in ~/Maildir/new) and says "no new messages." If I use mutt I can see the new messages.

This would definately be an excellent feature, and would conform to the spirit
of Maildirs. (probably just add the check in the "new mail check" code rather
than try and watch the directory constantly.)

I find this bug exists as well, but sometmies the new mail is reported in KMail hours later.

Whelp.. I've trashed Kmail for Sylpheed-claws... much more responsive to users
requests for new features/changes... and it integrates email and news (IE NNTP)
into one program. Might want to check it out...

Taking that sylpheed has no support for maildir, this is a pretty funny
comment :)

Greetings, Stephan

i didn't see what all the fuss was anyways. I've used both KMail 1.4 (from KDE 3.0) and KMail
1.5 (from KDE 3.1) with qmail and maildirs without any problems. :)

hmm..well it doesn;t work for me..It takes hours for messages to appear. When I know
someone is sending me a message, it have to use mutt to view it, which moves ot from
teh new dir to the current dir in the given message folder. Then it shows up in kmail.
This doesn;t happen all the time however. Perhaps i have to have a certain number of
messages in new to make kmail see them?

I do have the gkrellm mail counter running..could that possibly be doing this? The
default gkrellm mail counter sees the correct number of new messages and so does
mutt.

Did you use a tilde (~) in KMail to specify your maildir? I use the full path (/home/matt/Maildir)
instead of the shortened path (~/Maildir), and all is well for me. AFAIK, KMail doesn't substitute
the tilde (~) for your home directory path. Try the full path and see if it works like mutt and
gkrellm do. Hope this helps.

I'm having the same problem, using the latest KMail from KDE 3.1.4 from Debian sid.
I don't use an IMAP or POP account, all mail is being placed into the ~/Mail/inbox/new folder by procmail on my (mail)server.

When receiving new mail, it doesn't show up immediately, it may take some hours.
I'm forced to use mutt to read mail, and delete all index files.
After doing this, all new mail is visible in KMail (but not always).

Very frustrating bug, I hope it gets acknowleged soon.
Thank you for reading my reply. :)
