Description Corrado Mella 2020-06-29 21:17:43 UTC
SUMMARY

When choosing the "Rectangular Region" Capture Mode Area, (regardless of "on click" activated or not), when dragging the mouse the area is not visible.
Any change in the "Rectangular Region" settings in the program preferences does not fix the problem.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Setup Spectacle as above
2. Click, hold and start dragging
3. Release the click

OBSERVED RESULT
Mouse cursor correctly changes shape to a "+" while dragging.
No area is visibly highlighted.
On release, the mouse cursor changes shape to an open hand where the captured region should be, to corner drag pointer where the upper left / lower right corner of the selection should be, to a closed fist when clicking inside where the selection should be to drag it.
Captured area is successfully available in the program after double click / "Enter" keypress.

EXPECTED RESULT
As above, but with visible highlighted area.

You're using a version of Spectacle that's two and a half years old which is no longer supported, and the code for rectangular region mode has been completely rewritten since then to solve many bugs such as this one. I strongly suspect that it is already fixed in a later version, but it would be lovely if you could verify. To do this, you would probably have to upgrade to Kubuntu 20.04, or get a newer version of Spectacle from Snap, Flatpak, or by building it from source.
