SUMMARY
When trying to work only with keyboard one cannot select a clip to apply speed change to. 
I have set up a shortcut for speed changing of a clip. I am trying to automate smooth speed change which includes a lot of repetitive work so I wanted to use xdotool for it. So I cut the clip to 7 pieces, click the first one and start working with keyboard only. Change speed of first clip that is selected, hit Shift+S (shortcut for speed change) type in speed and Enter to apply. Then hit Alt+Right to select next snap point and then + to select the clip. By this point everything works as expected. The clip is selected and I can delete it or apply copied effects to it using a shortcut. But Shift+S (speed change shortcut) applies speed change to the clip that was last selected using the mouse. If no clip was previously selected with the mouse (a freshly opened project ) then no speed change dialog is opened and in the left bottom apppears a message "No item to edit". 

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set a shortcut for speed change (I have assigned Shift+S)
2. Open a project with more than one clips in timeline.
3. Select a clip in the timeline.
4. Move the playhead over another clip without clicking it with the mouse and select it with +.
5. Hit change speed shortcut and change the speed of the clip.


OBSERVED RESULT

The speed ot the clip that was previously selected with the mouse gets changed.

EXPECTED RESULT

The clip that is curently selected and highlighted gets the speed change.

Thanks for your report! I can not reproduce your problem as long as the right clip is selected, but you have to do Alt+Right twice because outherwise you would just jump to the end of the current clip (because after the speed change the end position of the clip changed and does not match the start position of the next clip as before).

Please check with the latest version (20.12.3 at the moment, https://kdenlive.org/en/download/) if this is solved with my tips and this report can be closed.
