Description MountainAirCA 2020-05-31 05:12:57 UTC
SUMMARY

The Star Profile feature is awesome, but once I launch it in the Guiding tab (to adjust focus prior to guiding) the operation of KStars/Ekos slows down immensely. This continues to occur even after closing that feature, and the only way to correct it is to disconnect from RPi, quit and re-launch KStars.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect to remote RPi
2. Go to Guiding tab (it probably happens in all image viewer windows, though)
3. Loop image capture, and enable the star profile to see the FWHM value.
4. When done, close the star profile.

OBSERVED RESULT
Performance of KStars/Ekos is still quite slow, like the star profile feature is still calculating star focus in the background.

EXPECTED RESULT
Performance should return to normal.

Also, why is the star profile feature not available in StellarMate (when VNCing to RPi)? RPi not powerful enough?

Update: This CPU consumption after closing the Star profile no longer seems to be an issue. Within a few seconds of closing the window on the Mac, CPU drops from ~95% to a more-normal ~20%. However, note that the button bar on the top of the capture window on the Guiding tab continues to flash during mouseover. Eventually this stops and everything seems OK. See attached video.

This no longer appears to be an issue in 3.5.0. Nice! Closing.
