Description stoledo 2002-05-06 07:39:27 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kword
Version: 1.2 Beta1 (WYSIWYG) (using KDE 3.0.0 )
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: Red Hat Linux 7.2.92
Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.2 2.96-109)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.7-10
OS/Compiler notes:

I suggest that text in KOffice applications be tagged with language. This would ebable a couple of features. The most important one for Israeli users (and probably other users of non latin/greek/cyrillic languages) is the association of multiple fonts with a single style one for each language or script. This issue is a bit too complex to explain in this text box so I set up a web page to explain this wishlist item more fully.

I vote in favor of this wish.

I often write text which includes more than one language

Usually it is because it will quote something in the original language, then include its translation in the main body of the text. In my case, it is most often (but not exclusively) between French and English.

If Kword can recognize when the text is in which language, spell checking would be mush nicer and one would not have translations underlined like if they were mistakes. (To mention 2 of the most obvious adventages.)

Just UI is missing. Adding a panel to the text tool plugin to show and update the current language from a combobox should fix the issue.

Thank you for your bug report or feature suggestion.

The "KOffice" application suite is no longer maintained, and all tickets are now closed.

We recommend to switch to the "Calligra" application suite, which has replacements for all unmaintained KOffice applications:

- KWord was replaced with Calligra Words
- KPlato was replaced with Calligra Plan

For more information, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calligra_Suite
