Description Nicolás Abel Carbone 2020-04-23 21:10:11 UTC
SUMMARY

I have kdenlive (recently updated to 20.04) installed via snap. When I try to enable vaapi acceleration, it says it is not available.

Installing Kdenlive via flatpak or .deb allows me to enable vaapi in the same PC. Not having vaapi acceleration in kdenlive is a really big handicap of the snap version.

As an example, obs-studio snap can access vaapi both for encoding and decoding.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install kdenlive via snap
2. Try to enable vaapi

OBSERVED RESULT
Kdenlive says vaapi is not available.

EXPECTED RESULT
Vaapi is enabled and works.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Ubuntu 20.04

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Installed via snap.

Vaapi (GPU acceleration) is switched of due to stability reasons. Kdenlive team is working on implementation.

I don't know if I follow.
VAAPI acceleration works fine when installing kdenlive via .deb or flatpak. The stability reasons are only linked to snap?

VAAPI is included in the new content snap, that Kdenlive uses now.
