Description Michael D 2020-04-03 09:24:38 UTC
This may be more a wish than a bug, but it would be very helpful if the toolbar button for "Save" changed state when a file is modified. E.g., when a file hasn't been modified the button should be inactive (greyed out, say), and after it has been modified, it should change to an active state.

For which application is this ticket?
Comment 2 Michael D 2020-04-28 09:14:10 UTC
I didn't know it depended on the application, but I had in mind Kwrite, Kate, Kile, and Okular.
Comment 3 Justin Zobel 2020-10-30 05:31:31 UTC
Agreed the save button should only be enabled if changes are detected.
Comment 4 Patrick Silva 2021-06-13 22:42:54 UTC
also reported against kmenuedit, see bug 383293
Comment 5 Waqar Ahmed 2022-08-16 10:00:33 UTC
This is working as intended. We don't disable the save button as one can use it "touch" a file.
Comment 6 Justin Zobel 2022-08-16 12:11:27 UTC
Why would anyone use kate to "touch" a file?

You dont have to but you can. See the linked dupe bugs if you are interested in learning more.

I also find it much more useful for the save button to show whether a file has been modified rather than using it to touch a file. Actually, touching an unmodified file by accident would be annoying for me since I usually sort files by date modified.

Any chance of reconsidering?
