SUMMARY
As described in Bug 418079.
K3b creates silent wav files out of 96k 24bit flac files, that had been created by libFLAC 1.2.1 (UTC 2007-09-17)

This is what mediainfo says...

I don't know how to cut a piece of the first file without re-encoding it, so as to attach it here.

I will try to attach the second file.

Note:
When I imported the first file in Audacity,
... and then exported it as flac,
... and then used k3b to create an Audio CD with the new flac file
... and then chose to export the sound of that CD
the created wav file had sound.

This "successful" flac file that was created by Audacity was like this, according to mediainfo...

Complete name : .../004_1 - Sweet Home Alabama_24bit_8compression_whole.flac
Format : FLAC
Format/Info : Free Lossless Audio Codec
File size : 100 MiB
Duration : 4 min 39 s
Overall bit rate mode : Variable
Overall bit rate : 3 009 kb/s
...
Audio
Format : FLAC
Format/Info : Free Lossless Audio Codec
Duration : 4 min 39 s
Bit rate mode : Variable
Bit rate : 3 009 kb/s
Channel(s) : 2 channels
Channel layout : L R
Sampling rate : 96.0 kHz
Bit depth : 24 bits
Compression mode : Lossless
Stream size : 100 MiB (100%)
Writing library : libFLAC 1.3.2 (UTC 2017-01-01)

So, the issue might have to do with the fact that the initial flac files were encoded with "libFLAC 1.2.1 (UTC 2007-09-17)".

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. See bug 418079 --> STEPS TO REPRODUCE --> Version 1

OBSERVED RESULT
Again, see bug 418079 --> OBSERVED RESULT --> In version 1

EXPECTED RESULT
Sound in the files, or a warning of no sound in the files.

"___ File 2 ___ " as described in the bug

Attention!
This file is a silent file. But if you open it in Audacity, you will see a graph.
Comment 2 Nikos Papadopoulos 2020-02-24 19:33:53 UTC
I see now. that the wav file, that gets created by k3b, out of "___ File 2 ___" flac, is too large to attach here.

For this thing to make sense, you probably have to use the attached "___ File 2 ___" flac file, and try to make an Audio CD with k3b (export the sound only, no need to actually burn the CD ).

Then you need to open the new wav file, in Audacity, as well as open the initial "___ File 2 ___" flac file in Audacity. Comparing the two, you should see that the initial graph has disappeared.

But then again, this might be a result of the different "Sampling rates" between the two files, and this example might mean absolutely nothing.

Sorry... but that is what I could find.

...

Why is the flac file silent?
See... https://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html --> Intermod Tests

Alternatively, someone could try downloading the "___ File 1 ___" flac file.

Please provide a non silent file, i can't rule out there's some magic optimization somewhere saying "this is silent anyway"
