SUMMARY
Gwenview takes a long time to open (around 30 seconds)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Opening gwenview takes a long time. When I launch it, it seems as the screen freezes but it's actually the gwenview window that appears as if it's a screenshot of what was displayed on the screen at the moment it was opened for a while. It's as if it struggles to compose the main window.
Opening gwenview either by doubleclicking or from the terminal doesn't make any difference.

It happened for a while then as I was compiling this bug report, I fired up simplescreenrecorder to take a video of the issue but it magically solved itself and now it opens instantly again. This has happened other times before. Running gwenview from a terminal does not display anything.

Hopefully I'll be able to record a video as I'm sure it will happen again.

Have a look at Bug 411196

It would be interesting to know if you are running KDE connect or your system is running as a guest VM
