Description Johannes Felko 2020-02-13 15:49:43 UTC
SUMMARY
I'm using Kate from the Windows Store and if I want to compare to files it says "The selected program could not be started. Maybe it is not installed". Regardless if I take kompare, kdiff or meld.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install Kate on Windows from store.
2. Open two files and try to compare them.
3. Chose one of the backends.

OBSERVED RESULT
Compare not possible due to missing backend

EXPECTED RESULT
Kate should be shipped with a one backend to be able to compare.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: Win 10 Pro 1909

KDE Frameworks Version: 5.66.0
Qt Version: 5.14.0

With the new git plugin, you will be able to launch "git difftool" directly from kate to view diffs at least.

Since 22.12 Kate ships with a built-in diff viewer that can show diffs produced by git. (Git needs to be installed at least). This diff functionality can be used on normal documents that don't reside in a git repo.

To be able to use this, right click on a tab and then select "Compare With Active Tab".
