If you add a standalone Media Player widget to the desktop, does the same thing happen there? Ok, I discovered that this problem is only with Spotify. When I add standalone MediaPlayer widget to desktop its working as expected. I add another one to the panel (so now I have two on panel) - these are not working correctly. Spotify's mpris implementation is quite buggy, wouldn't be surprised if Position reporting was just off...
