SUMMARY

Sometimes after reboot or waking my laptop from sleep I notice that battery and brightness indicator is missing. At the same time System Settings Power management page has a message "The Power Management Service appears not to be running" (see screenshots).
It happened to me on Kubuntu 18.04 and I see it time after time on the latest KDE Neon.

I googled but couldn't find a way to run required service manually. I even didn't understand which service it is (upower seems to be running).
The only way I can solve this problem is logout and login again, which is sad.

bug 404804

I have the same problem with current neon unstable - powerdevil does not seem to be running after login and the "energy saving" KCM shows the message "Power Management configuration module could not be loaded. The Power Management Service appears not to be running."

I checked /etc/xdg/autostart/powerdevil.desktop, which seems to be fine. Executing /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/org_kde_powerdevil manually restores the functionality.

journalctl | grep powerdevil

Grepping the journal for "powerdevil" I can only see logs for the KCM and complaints about the DBus service not being available.

Thanks for the bug report, and I'm sorry we weren't able to get to it yet. A lot has changed since it was reported; can I ask you to re-test with Plasma 6.3.5 or later? Thanks a lot!
