It could be a Debian issue. Clips and rendering to a USB connected drive could be a problem as well. Unfortunately 18.12 and older Kdenlive versions are not maintained anymore. You can try with 19.04 AppImage. Kdenlive 19.08 and 19.12 need Debian 19.04 or newer. Installed KDENLIVE 19.12.1 (flatpak) and there it all works: I can save to the NFS drive without problems.
