Interesting idea, but I'm afraid this super duper out of scope for Spectacle. And it's not even necessary in the first place for most use cases: if you're taking a screenshot of some text element on the screen, presumably it's *already* selectable, so there's no need to take a screenshot, just copy the text and paste it elsewhere. For cases where you want to take a screenshot of a piece of non-selectable text (for example, maybe a digitally-scanned document in the form of JPEG files, or on a website) you'd be better off taking the source image itself and feeding it into an OCR program. I wasn't suggesting that this is a required feature. It would be a nice feature for it. I'm asking for something like how Google lens takes care of photos with text. (It'll allow for you to select and extract the text from the image) I'm afraid we don't have the resources of a company like Google to implement something like that. And as I said, this proposal is pretty far out of scope for Spectacle. Spectacle aspires to be a screenshot app. IMO if any app would be the right place for this, it would be Skanlite, and that app would gain a "capture from screen" mode or something. However not even Skanlite has OCR, so that may give you an idea of our capacity to implement this kind of feature. Sorry, I don't think we will be able to do this. Of course we welcome patches if someone else wants to implement it. :) |
