SUMMARY
Refresh has no effect in Preview mode

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open an album in digikam
2. Open a picture in that album outside digikam for advanced editing (Darktable for instance)
3. Save the edited picture with a "..._darktable.jpg" file name
4. go back to Digikam
5. Refresh the Preview view (F5 or menu View Refresh)

OBSERVED RESULT
No refresh happens.
I need to quit the preview (clicking on Thumbnails view) annd then hit F5.

EXPECTED RESULT
I would expect F5 (Refresh) to operate also in Preview mode, so that the other thumbnails (below the Preview) do update.

In Preview mode or Media Player mode, F5 reloads the current item. I'm rather unwilling to read the thumbnails in the background and search for new items. If you really make many external changes, you can also enable the automatic updates with all their possible disadvantages. You will find the option in the digiKam setup under collection.

Ok Maik,
automatic refresh (scan) is a nice workaround for what I expected, thanks.

I just hope that Digikam won't rescan all my albums each time... with >10'000 pictures, this could be heavy processing. I would prefer it automatically update only the currently browsed album. ;)

Only the album in which changes have been made will be scanned.
