Interfaces – Observations

SUMMARY
Using the tool is intuitive. Here is an enhancements request that might be relevant.

OBSERVATIONS
1. In main view, Files | New Key Pair... – Two tasks are covered under that menu-entry: creations either of keys alone or key pairs.
2. While the steps involved in those creations are still going on, and at least one option has been manually selected, despite mention 'Certify' is a default usage of these creations cases (kleopatra_3.1.4_interface_1), this mention is omitted from Review Parameters (kleopatra_3.1.4_interface_2).
3. In main view, listed certificates come along with current categories from Name to Key ID in columns (kleopatra_3.1.4_interface_4; they may be arranged according to those categories as well.

APPLICABLE ENHANCEMENTS
1. 'New Key Pair...'-named menu-entry would be named accordingly to the available tasks; example of models: 'New Key Pair or Key alone...', 'New Key alone or Key Pair...'.
2. Mention 'Certify' would be present as it is the case under Subkeys details -nemed window (kleopatra_3.1.4_interface_3) while a certificate has been selected for opening then More Details clicked.
3. Consider adding category 'Usage' as well, which would deal with toggled use-cases, like 'Certify'. That's the way that would suit me in everyday use.

Not to mention that developers don't seem to understand difference between therms X509 and S/MIME. It's used interchangebley all over the user interface. If this is so difficult, it could explain why nothing works in whole program.

KDE bugs go 10-20 years easily without being fixed.

If only it weren't an open secret. Still, KDE should easily find some consolation. Being in good company in this regard —LibreOffice, Gnome, to name just a tiny fraction of the projects that have nicely become zombies— it's certainly not a trivial matter.

The answer is to rip features. I recall KDE3 had certificate tool that Kleopatra replaced. I say that because it's unclear what Kleopatra tries to be. It's not just storage and desktop api for crypto keys, it has all kind of features that end result is, it's overly complex, broken here and there and doesn't do well the feature it replaced. By occupying the role it prevents these basic OS functions being provided and everyday tasks being done.

Proof of that is Okular that bypasses it because this piece of s**^H^Htware doesn't do its job in place it occupies. I hope someday Okular starts providing basic crypto services for whole KDE-desktop and also keep the knowledge how to display PDF-documents.

For the record, I refer the 'everyday tasks being done' with this: https://kde.org/announcements/announcement/
