SUMMARY
open calendar, click on any date. it gets highlighted and in the left half of the calendar panel the date is correctly displayed with all the festivities, etc. but right-clicking to copy the date always only gives the actual date, not the selected one.

I'm getting the bug too, but I don't know what the left or right half of the calendar is. My calendar widget only has one part, and if I enable events, there's a top/bottom half. And both of them only ever copy the current date, not the date you right-clicked, or the date that's highlighted.

If you're still experiencing this in Plasma 5.20, can you attach a screenshot showing the issue? I'm not seeing that the individual event items have any right-click menu at all.

can't tell. newest Plasma-version on fedora31 is 5.18.5 ... i'll update, once 5.20 is available on fedora.
