Description jamesnoeckel 2019-09-13 19:32:38 UTC
SUMMARY
Attempting to use the transform tool to scale, move or rotate text causes unstable behavior. Even selecting the transform tool momentarily and switching back to the select shapes tool is enough to cause text to stop rendering.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create text
2. Select transform tool
3. Pick perspective transform or warp modes
4. Deform the text in some way

OBSERVED RESULT
Text vanishes from canvas

EXPECTED RESULT
Text should be transformed properly, or it should be made clear that those tools cannot be applied to text.

Another thing to try:
1. Create text
2. Using transform tool, apply a translation to the text
3. Convert text to path using the edit shapes tool

OBSERVED RESULT
Text vanishes

EXPECTED RESULT
Text should be converted to a path in place

And another:
1. Create text
2. Select Transform tool
3. Select Select Shapes tool

OBSERVED RESULT
Text vanishes until you hide and unhide the vector layer

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux: kubuntu

Also observed on Windows

it seems that the perspective or warp transformation causes any vector layer to vanish, not just text. The vanishing bug when switching tools also happens with vector layers in general.
