Description Ruben 2019-08-27 19:41:27 UTC
SUMMARY
By clicking on sound, and "additional options for speakers", the headphone jack appears when I plug it in, but the HDMI output does not. This happens for all HDMI devices I have tried (T.V.s monitors etc).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Plug in HDMI cable
2. Click Sound Icon
3. Click "Show Additional Options" menu
4. Plug and unplug various peripherals (headset, HDMI etc)

OBSERVED RESULT
No changes occur when HDMI plugs are in place. I have to use the Advanced menu to play HDMI as an output

EXPECTED RESULT
I should be able to switch to HDMI. Other people have been able to do this.

This is an inherent property of how your audio hardware is laid out. HDMI audio and internal audio are not independant devices but rather on the same device and to switch between them you need to switch profiles. This is very unfortunate from a UX point of view, but I'm not sure what can be done about it

Yes, this is a common issue with laptops that use onboard audio with Intel chips. The other people with dedicated HDMI outs probably had AMD chips. Not much we can do.
