SUMMARY
provide an option to keep "search & replace"'s panel in the bottom/down of app even if the "search & replace"'s plugin take place in lateral bar left/right.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. put "search & replace" in lateral bar right or left
2. click on it and note positioning to the panel
3. put "search & replace" in lateral bar up or down
4. click on it and note positioning to the panel

OBSERVED RESULT
when the panel is positioning on the right/left side, it take to much space
 on the screen. if resize it less so dialog search are thin/short. the "search & replace"'s panel appear where the "search & replace"'s icon is.

EXPECTED RESULT
get an option to force the "search & replace"'s panel stay in the up/down side even if "search & replace"'s icon is on right/left side. for a good space optimization on laptop screen.

Putting it on the left or right and then making it visible from the bottom sounds confusing and is contrary to the design. If better space utilization is the goal we need better ideas, not work arounds.
