SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
0. swapoff -a
1. Start Krusader
2. Press F9 / Click 'F9 Term'
3. Start some background process in console

OBSERVED RESULT

Krusader consumes up to 1.5 GiB RAM

EXPECTED RESULT

Krusader frees some RAM

Is this still an issue with Krusader version 2.8.1? I could reproduce the behavior and the Konsole instance is not a child of the Krusader process. 
What are the background processes that are strarted?

Couldn't reproduce with Krusader 2.8.1
Any 'hard on RAM' app the Konsole can start is fine. At the time of filing the bug I ran multiple java -jar ... &
E.g., pick a ...tar.gz of IDEA Community that suits your PC's architecture, extract somewhere, cd to bin/ dir, run ./idea & from Konsole. 
No need to install Java ecosystem tools or open any project, as idle IDEA will consume 1GiB+ of RAM
