SUMMARY

Currently you can either only mute or the change the volume of

1) everything in general
2) applications which currently play sounds.

Imagine the following scenario:

Have your total volume set to maximum and your music player to something like medium.
If you listen to music and simultaneously have your favorite email program opened, like the Thunderbird, and an email comes in, a very loud "plop" sounds will be played.

This hurts someone's ears if you wear in ears or simply annoys.

IDEA

Add an option to the applet
1) to mute or
2) to change the volume of all applications except for a selection of those applications, which are currently displayed in the plasma-pa applet.

The Thunderbird won't show up in the plasma-pa applet, so you can't change it's volume or mute it at applet!

Why not simply set the global volume to the appropriate level instead?

Thinking about it again, I believe my suggestion was not too useful. ;)
