Project Bin area

Hello,

This is my first report on KDE and, on top of that, I’m still learning the basics of Kdenlive, so I hope I’m following the rules (I couldn’t find a similar previous bug report).

SUMMARY
I can’t add a slideshow clip possibly due to Unicode problems.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Click on Project ==> Add Slideshow Clip.
2. Select a folder.
3. Click on OK.

OBSERVED RESULT
In the Project Bin area, I get the following error message: ‘Cannot open file C:\multimedia\imágenes\arte\Virgil Finlay\.all.jpg’.

I think Kdenlive won’t open the files because of the extended character on the <imágenes> folder. In fact, if I move the <Virgil Finlay> folder to <C:\>, the operation works flawlessly.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows 10 x64 (1903, 18362.175).
Kdenlive 19.04.2-4.

Please try the following and try to load the slideshow after each point:

1. Delete Kdenliverc https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual/Windows_Issues#Cannot_open_projects_made_with_previous_version.2C_timeline_snaps_back.2C_cannot_import_clip afterwards Open/Close/Open Kdenlive.

2. Change the folder name "imágenes" to "imagenes".

3. Change the local settings from comma to point or vice versa https://invent.kde.org/kde/kdenlive/issues/78#note_3980.

Thank you for your reply, @emohr.

It does work now. That's what I expected since my problem seemed to happen only when there was an extended character in the path.
Comment 3 David García 2019-06-18 18:03:02 UTC
Out of curiosity, I've switched back to using the comma as decimal separator and I have renamed again my folder as "imágenes". Again as expected, I can't import the images.

Glad to hear it works. Do you execute point 1 and 2 or only point 2?
Comment 5 David García 2019-06-18 18:09:08 UTC
I followed the three instructions, though I believe the problem has to do with the extended character.

Before creating a slideshow, I could always move the files to a path with no extended characters, but I hope a permanent solution can be found. I use Spanish and my hard drive is full of folders and files with extended characters in their names.

Hi,

I've installed version 19.04.2-5 and now it won't open any images whether they are in a path with extended characters or not.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the programme and I've deleted "Kdenliverc", but I keep getting the same result.

Could you please test the following. Goto help -> click "reset configuration".

If you still have the problem goto AppData -> local -> delete the Kdenlive folder.

And there is another issue: If you start Kdenlive the first time or you delete Kdenliverc you have to start/close/start Kdenlive. Otherwise Kdenliverc is not correct generated.

Thank you, @emohr! Resetting the configuration did work (partially) and now I'm back to the way things were when I published my first message: I can add as slideshow clip as long as there are no extended characters on the folder path.

I'll keep testing with new versions to check if there's a fix for this.

Hi,

I just wanted to say that the problem persists in Kdenlive 19.08.2. I installed this version after formatting my PC, so it was a clean install.

I still believe that I can't load the images due to Unicode problems occurring when there's an extended character in the folder path.

I'll be testing this problem on future releases.

I've tested the issue in 20.08 and it seems to be fixed now.
