Sentry Crash Report:

Description Dan 2019-05-30 13:27:22 UTC
SUMMARY

Change the name of a layer(s), Krita doesn't recognize a change has been made to the document (and thus if that's all you're doing, the document can't be saved). Likewise for setting Guides Visible or Locked settings. There may be other settings that don't trigger a save document.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Save a document
2. Change a layer name
3. Observe no 'changed document' asterisk

OBSERVED RESULT
Asterisk in title bar doesn't appear, document can't be saved

EXPECTED RESULT
Asterisk would appear and changes can be saved

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: 10 latest
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma:
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version:
KDE Frameworks Version:
Qt Version:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Comment 1 Gremriel 2019-05-30 13:31:49 UTC
Control + S and pressing the save icon saves the document for me. I agree with the asterisk, though
Comment 2 Dan 2019-05-30 13:33:35 UTC
Apologies, you're correct that Ctrl-S does work regardless - I had tried that previously but my keyboard must not have registered it.
Comment 3 vanyossi 2019-05-30 15:59:26 UTC
This is already fixed in 4.2 (fixed by commit 43f89ce8d9c13ee0c174), thanks for the report!
