SUMMARY

The Tags / Tag Manager is "messed up" with thousands of Location Names in the Keywords that are related to the Geo location. Therefore browsing the keywords is a rather "messy" experience.

So Keywords of a Single Image show up like this:
[ ] AUS
[ ] Australia
[ ] New South Wales
[ ] Sydney
[ ] Darling Harbour

But the Location Names are not stored in the iptc / xmp "Subject" or "keyword" Metadata fields.

I am speaking of the Metadata in
xmp:CountryCode
xmp:Country
xmp:State
xmp:City
xmp:Location

and

iptc:Country-PrimaryLocationCode
iptc:Country-PrimaryLocationName
iptc:Province-State
iptc:City
iptc:Sub-location

they should be displayed in the Tag Manager and Tag View in a Hierarchy like

Places/Country/State/City/Location/
and
Places/Country-PrimaryLocationName/Province-State/City/Sub-location/

so if a Image has the Metadata in any of these Fields it shall be displayed in the Tag Manager / Tag View in a Hierarchy that makes sense.

like
 [x] Australia
   '-- [x] New South Wales
        '-- [x] Sydney
             '-- [x] Darling Harbour

As you, I prefer to use the standard IPTC tags for location names. Digikam should include the IPTC location tags in the Map view as you point out.
