example of System Tray Settings Entries showing as empty
I can confirm this on FreeBSD 11.2 with the same plasma&kf5 versions (but with qt 5.12). I also use a vertical panel to the left - have not tried horisontal. There are more, related, issues when trying to add or remove some "extra items". Then the interaction with the tray becomes erratic, for example, the popup for hidden icons does not work. The setting entries list seems to become empty after any changes in the extra items setting, or perhaps only pressing "OK" in the settings dialogue is enough to trigger. One of the icon has black background - is it using legacy tray icons? To check that, kill xembedsniproxy, if icon disappears then it is a legacy icon. Do you have compositor enabled? If you are unsure, check System Settings -> Display and Monitor -> Compositor Is it possible that this is application specific? Does it happen always or only when some specific application is running? What applications are you running when problem happens? Created attachment 123191 [details]
Display and Monitor settings
Display and Monitor settings does not show a setting for compositor.
I cannot reproduce the bug in KDE neon 5.16 with updates as of 2019-10-14. I tried it on bare metal and in a VM. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: KDE neon 5.16 KDE Plasma Version: 5.16.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.63.0 Qt Version: 5.13.1 Kernel Version: 4.15.0-65-generice OS Type: 64-bit I tried killing xembedsniproxy but the green icon looks the same; however, that green icon software has had several updates in the past months. It only had the black background when the panel got messed up. I do not see a setting for compositor in System Settings > Display and Monitor (see attachment "Display and Monitor settings"). The app with the green icon is Private Internet Access. OK, I'm closing this as fixed. Please reopen if it's still a problem on latest Plasma. |
Created attachment 117723 [details] panel after the bug SUMMARY system tray moves and overlaps with time and Configure Panel button after hiding some system tray icons STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Using Icon-only Task Manager (not sure if that matters) and a vertical panel aligned to the left side of screen, right click on system tray and choose Configure System Tray 2. In the "System Tray Settings -- Plasma" window, click Entries. Note that there are many entries listed. 3. click General 5. click Entries. Sometimes no entries will be listed. (this is a separate bug) 6. click General again. 7. uncheckmark some Extra Items. (e.g. Battery and Brightness, Clipboard, Printers, Vaults) 8. click Apply and Ok. OBSERVED RESULT Note that the System Tray may shift down and overlap with the time and the Configure Panel button. At this point it is very difficult to click on system tray icons. Most right-clicks to the sides of system tray icons will think that you are clicking the icon-only task manager; sometimes right-clicking a tray icon will register as clicking the icon-only task bar. Moving the vertical panel into the horizontal panel does not fix the problem and when doing so, the system tray stays vertical so you can only see two tray icons. Rebooting seems to fix the problem. Repairing the panel is difficult (problems with clicking/moving different panel pieces) and seems easier to add a new panel and redo the panel from scratch and then delete the old panel. EXPECTED RESULT The system tray icons should not move or overlap. System tray icons should be easily clickable without the computer thinking that I clicked on the icon-only task bar. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Neon 18.04 with updates up to 2019-01-29 (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.14.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.54.0 Qt Version: 5.11.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
