SUMMARY
see $SUBJECT

In the import view, if no new files are available and the "New Files" filter is activated, Digikam should show a message in the center of the main view saying something like "No *new* images are available for import. If you want to see all available images, select 'All Files' instead of 'New Files' in the bottom toolbar."
This should not be a dialog window you have to dismiss, just a text box in the center of the main part of the Digikam window where otherwise thumbnails would be shown.

I think this is better than showing nothing at all (which might also be due to slow reading from the medium, or read errors, or a medium missing, or ...) and much less confusing for new users.
Empty screens should always be avoided - even an empty Album (or tag, in tag view) in Digikam should have a message in the main view saying "This album is empty" / "This tag has not been used on any images yet." or something similar.

DigiKam is not Dolphin, but Dolphin does not show also a message, that there is nothing to see. DigiKam shows the hint "0 files" like Dolphin bottom left. If data is still being read this is visible on the animated digiKam logo.

True. The same issue is valid for Dolphin.

But still: I've had my fair share of "WTF" moments when Digikam showed no files although I *knew* there were new images on the medium or camera.

I just want Digikam to avoid confusion especially for new users. And I think the change is trivial enough (just add a text box and translations). But maybe I'm wrong ...

After 3 weeks of work, i finally completed the compilation of AppImage using Qt
5.11.3 + QWebkit 5.212.

New 6.1.0 pre-release AppImage bundle can be found here (64 bits only for the
moment) :

https://files.kde.org/digikam/

Please check if this bugzilla entry still valid.

Thanks in advance

I checked the behaviour with digikam 7.0.0. No additional hint (except the one on the button left saying 0 files) is provided in case of no new files.
