Clip Problem Dialogue Box

Description klflote 2018-12-08 23:03:25 UTC
SUMMARY
When you open a kdenlive project with titles that use a font that is not available on the platform, the Clip Problems box pops up, but doesn't actually list any information about what is wrong. There are no missing clips to resolve, and no information that a font is missing -- just this hint that something is wrong.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a file with a title sequence
2. Uninstall the fonts used in the title sequence
3. Restart kdenlive an open the file

OBSERVED RESULT
A empty popup for missing clips

EXPECTED RESULT
An error message with the name of the missing font in the popup

Thank you for reporting.
Beside the message it would be good to choose a substitute font as well.

Actually, a substitute font is chosen for display and rendering, though the new file is not updated with the new font (nor would I want it to be, I suppose).

That was another odd thing, actually, since the file looked fine even though there was this error. Though the font wasn't a perfect match, I didn't notice the change at first.

After uninstalling font (font changed automatically, no popup)
Comment 5 Akhil 2018-12-31 08:57:28 UTC
I followed the steps to reproduce and I did not find a "Clips Problem" popup after uninstalling the font and opening the project again. A substitute font was automatically used. I've attached the screenshots.

Linux: Kubuntu 18.10

I'm new here and hunting for my first bug so apologies if I've done something wrong.

From the screenshots, it looks like you uninstalled the font used for the UI, and then the system automatically picked a new font for the UI. But that's not the issue.

In my case, I created a title clip that uses the font that was later uninstalled. I don't see any title clips in your screenshots. It is the attempt to resolve the font in the title clip that triggers the empty popup.

Apologies, I now understand - I added a title clip, add some text and uninstalled that font. It looks like the issue is already handled, with the Clips Problem Dialogue box popping up and showing the necessary information with a substitute font being used in place.

Solved in refactoring and backported the fix to the stable 18.12 branch.
