Symptom started as a hung system after logging into kde, which began after updating my opensuse Tumbleweed system to 20180818, with the 4.18.0 kernel. Testing found I could boot with the same syston consistently with the previous 4.17.14 kernel. It was difficult to test, since it worked fine with 4.17.14, and 4.18.0 would not work. I found, (via ssh) the system still run, so the kernel was working, but xorg consumed 100% cpu, and shutting down nor rebooting would work.

I tried a Live KDE DVD of the same version of TW, and it worked, so I felt it had to be something else than the kernel. I then installed a full system on an external HD, which also worked. I then started installing packages to match my main system. After adding several colord packages, the new install repeated the issue, hanging on boot, can only hit the power button to turn off, no commands or key combos work. I uninstalled all the colord packages, which allowed me to login again, but I ended up having to delete my user .cache, .config and .local (since this was a test system) folders to be able to login in normally.

Tonight I upgraded the test system to the latest 20180910, and tried reinstalling one by one the colord packages. The final tested package was colord-kde and colord-kde-lang. The system locked up again on boot, same as before. I then rebooted in console mode, removed colord-kde and colord-kde-lang, checked my user directory and just deleted .local/share/icc and its one icc file, and rebooted. I was able to login normally.

I have no idea if the problem is just colord-kde, or the colord system, with the greater the 4.18.0 kernels (currently at 4.18.6), but it is consistent and severe. I know I can boot normally on my main system with the colord packages uninstalled. I now know form tonight's tests that everything works ok with the (now) 4.18.6 kernel with colord-kde and colord-kde-lang uninstalled. I also know that colord-kde (version 0.5.0) worked fine up to kernel 4.17.14.

That is as much as I have found and somewhat understood. I hope this helps to find the problem.

I just reinstalled colord-kde (and colord, colord-color-profiles, and colord-kde-lang) and my system seems to be operating with no problems, very different from when I filed this bug. So it appears to be fixed, at least with the most recent Tumbleweed release.
