Many programs on Linux do not properly understand accessing SMB directly, this is solved if you mount SMB to a local location first using a different tool or command and have CIFS handle this for you.

Having Dolphin create automatic mounts and showing SMB as a drive until the user unmounts it would make the experience easier to use for the less experienced user transitioning from Windows who expects programs to work flawlessly when accessing a network drive instead of having to either enter SMB credentials in these programs seperately, having to wait for a file copy in the background or having programs fail to access the location.
