Starting with KMail 5.9.1, there is a hidden configuration option to disable the message box, see https://cgit.kde.org/kmail.git/commit/?id=8316c7a83c068cf102985166a7de5144a4e23fbf A future commit might re-add the GUI setting. Thanks, works for me. A proper configuration option would be desirable, though.
