Thanks for the report, it appears this is now in effect as regional settings are done by country. Can you please test and confirm if this issue is still occurring or if this bug report can be marked as resolved. I've set the bug status to "needsinfo" pending your response, please change back to "reported" or "resolved" when you respond, thanks. Isn't it easier if whomever designed this workflow verifies it? This is a design issue that should be present for anyone with a fresh install of kde5, it's not platform dependent. I'm not sure what is the real status of this bug, since it is not "needsinfo" anymore, but I can confirm that the bug is still there in KDE Plasma 5.24.0, on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed Snapshot 20220214. I would like to get this issue moving forward, if I can help more please let me know. I've changed the region mainly to have my desktop environment use formats familiar to me, but along with it the user interface language was also changed. I'll include a screenshot proving this as an attachment. It is particaly weird since this language is not even listed at "Locale Settings \ Language", so in my interpretation, it is not installed (also I don't remember installing it, in the system's lifetime of 2 hours in a virtual machine). The reason I want to change it back to English - while keeping my region for the formats - is threefold: 1. Using the translation it is much harder to search online for problems regarding my system. 2. Using the translation, certain messages may be inaccurate. 3. The translation is incomplete (as seen on the screenshot). I also agree that besides this, it would also be very useful to have the possibility to use custom formatting settings, as it is also possible on Windows operating systems. If this appears as a new comment, sorry for that, I'm just learning how to use bugzilla.
It will be fixed with the ongoing work to merge the region and language KCMs for Plasma 5.25: https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/merge_requests/1147 (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #5) > It will be fixed with the ongoing work to merge the region and language KCMs > for Plasma 5.25: > https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/merge_requests/1147 Thank you for the fast response! I'll check it out. Is there a way to "preview" the changes? So I can see if it works as intended, and let you know if something is wrong. I'm (very) new to Linux on the desktop, but not otherwise, and since I can easily roll it back, I would like to help if I can. You'd need to compile the software from source code, per https://community.kde.org/Infrastructure/GitLab#Testing_someone_else.27s_Merge_Request. It's a rather involved process, I'm afraid. Compiled the system settings app at commit `32c8ad9417ac68bc167e4f215e02eb82429b227e`, and started the compiled version.
Changed the region in the old "Regional Settings\Formats", relogged, now it seems the language is not changed, and the formats are changed, which is good, but the "Regional Settings\Region & Language" menu says that the language is currently my own (the one that my region has set earlier).
See attached screenshot for how it looks like.
Wow, nice. Let's follow up in the comments section for that Merge Request. If it's not doing what you expect, can you re-post this over there as a review comment? Make sure to also include the contents of ~/.config/plasma-localerc. Thanks! (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #9) > Wow, nice. Make sure to also include the contents of > ~/.config/plasma-localerc. Thanks! Hmm, registration on "https://identity.kde.org/index.php?r=registration/enterDetails" resulted in the error "Client rejected by automatic spammer detection system". Is it possible that you have @simplelogin.co email adresses blacklisted? I use it here in the forum too (my forum account was made yestersay), for a kind of spam protection. I can use my real email too, just wanted to make sure it's necessary before I go on. That seems likely, yeah. *** Bug 452846 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** This is basically fixed with the merge of https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/merge_requests/1147. Now everything is in one KCM, so it's clear how to accomplish what you want: don't touch the language at all, and instead set the numbers, time, currency, and measurements individually to what you want. |
