Add a png as clip
The png should be for instance 400 wide 100 height
Magnify it with position and zoom ( e.g. 800 %) 
So far works well
add Rotate keuframable 
Click on the chronometer (to add keyframe)
witness you png being magnifieed, but still the original size (croped)

Please try with the actual Kdenlive AppImage version 18.08.2
Run the Appimage from the terminal (press CTRL + ALT + T). Move to the AppImage folder and run the .AppImage: ./Kdenlive*.AppImage

In the effect stack pipeline, there is no memory of out of frame pixels, so you must be very careful to your effects order... and sometimes there is no solution.
Then you need a real composition software, which Kdenlive is not.
Some use tools like Blender for that task (hard to get into).
We have a new titler that was started 2 years back that should allow powerful animations (on text, drawings & images only, not video), unfortunately it is still unfinished and on hold...
