Connect a second screen via HDMI and close the laptop, so that the laptop screen turns off. When you now disconnect the HDMI and then reopen the laptop again, KScreen assumes that the second screen is still there.

Any chance you can test again with KDE Plasma 5.13.x? A lot of multi-screen fixes have went into that version, so it would be nice to know if this has already been fixed.
