It would be very useful to have the option to put the original pictures and previous versions of an image in a (maybe hidden) sub-directory.
Picasa used to proceed like this. When you modify an image and save the changes, the original is moved into a sub-directory and only the last version of the pictures remain in the directory.
The main advantage is to maintain a clean view of the picture folders. You'll end up with the same view whether you look at a folder with digikam or a file explorer.
Parts of my photo collection is stored on a network storage. If I want to show some pictures from any device browsing through the directories, I currently have all the versions of the pictures.

Is this under consideration? I have the same problem where in other applications I have to see the original files before edits.

A way to save original files to a sub directory or different folder hierarchy would be really useful.

This is a duplicate of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=271672.

Still valid on 6.4.0 and 7.0.0 beta 2.

Marked as duplicate of a ten years old unresolved issue...
I really don't know how to feel about that one...

Resolved don't want mean closed. The parent file is now bug #271672.

Man power is limited on the project. so when time permits and when somebody will motivated to work on this wish, this will be done...

Sorry, didn't mean to be abrasive in any ways.
It's a great project, producing a great piece of software and making it available for free.
Still think that, from a management point of view, the matter should've been sorted out some time ago...
