I get an error when i double click to open the project file withing the project folder:

Cannot open the project file,
Do you want to open backup file?

If I open the backup file i loose part of my progress but if I don't open the backup file kdenlive open to a blank project.

by going to File/Open Recent the project open without any errors.

I am running it in Lubuntu 16.04 LTS 

Kdenlive Version 15.12.3

Using:
KDE Frameworks 5.18.0
Qt 5.5.1 (built against 5.5.1)
The xcb windowing system

Maybe you have to try with the newer AppImage of Kdenlive: start with version 17.12.

In Version 18.04 is a file checker and restorer implemented. But make a copy of your project file first.

Please try with the current Kdenlive AppImage version 18.12.0e
