*** Bug 396118 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** +1 for this request This is a huge point for me regarding the "Usability and Productivity" epic. I usually don't remember what the cached setting is from before plugging my earphones into my laptop. If I mute the sound while the earphones are plugged in I expect it to be muted afterwards as well. I have already had some embarrassing situations in the library. This should be fixed by https://phabricator.kde.org/D26418. Git commit 681e1c8faaaff54707bc532deb7d4d3a99044b7f by Nate Graham, on behalf of George Vogiatzis. Committed on 31/01/2020 at 15:19. Pushed by ngraham into branch 'master'. [Applet]Add global mute function Summary: Add a Mute icon that will force all playback devices to mute. Even if new device/port connects, will automatically mute. Does not work as an indicator. It is possible for all the devices to be muted and the icon to be disabled. It acts as a force switch. Is aware of devices that were muted before. So that will be able to unmute only the devices that actually mute. With an exception if all the devices were muted. Gets disabled when manually unmute a device. Stores values in config file, for reboot etc. Part of T10470 layout changes. Created attachment 114107 [details] Very simple mockup to only explain the idea. # Consider the following situation: The internal speakers are not muted and no music/video/sound is playing. You decide to listen to music or to watch a video and in order to not disturb anyone around you, you plugin your headphones. You may mute the sound now, but once you unplug your head phone, your internal speakers will play loud as they were not muted before, since their mute state was cached. You cannot easily access the setting to mute all outputs (at once) as long as your headphones are plugged in. Of course you could have muted the internal speakers before the head phones are plugged in, but there’s always the chance that you forget about doing it. # Suggested solution: To workaround that, I would like to propose to introduce a “library" or "silence mode". That could be simply a button in plasma-pa, as seen in my badly composed mockup, which deactivates all sounds as long as it is checked. It could also be configurable to allow you to mute the internal speakers automatically, when the headphones are unplugged. Regards Alex
