If you have a panel on the top edge of the screen the Plasma Search bar will be partially covered by it. This only happens on Wayland, on a Xorg session the Plasma Search bar will appear right under the edge of the panel. 

How to reproduce:
-Start a Plasma Wayland Session
-Unlock the widgets
-Right click on the default panel > Panel Options > Panel Settings
-Move the cursor on the "Screen edge" box
-While holding left click drag it to the top edge of your screen
-Lock the widgets
-click on an empty part of the desktop
-start typing on your keyboard in order to make the Plasma search bar appear
