Sentry Crash Report:

Description David 2018-06-14 21:16:13 UTC
If I'm highlighting a window in the task manager (by activating the option "Highlight windows" in the configuration of e.g. the icons-only task manager and then hovering the mouse over the icon of that window), and that window closes, the highlight effect keeps focused on an empty window, instead of vanishing and returning the focus to the last active window. The effect vanishes after hovering the mouse over another icon and then moving it away from any icon.

Steps to reproduce:
-Activate "highlight windows" effect in the task manager - for the icons-only task manager, right click the task manager, select "Configure icons-only task manager", tick "Highlight windows".
-Launch some application that would close by itself without input from the user.
-While the application is active and its window is not on focus, hover the mouse over its icon in the task manager.
-Let the application close.

Expected behavior:
-The "highlight" effect should terminate and focus should return to the last active window.

Actual behavior:
-The effect keeps highlighting an empty window.

Can you tell the exact application? - to reproduce this issue

I don't remember with which applications it has happened. I think I've seen it with some windows applications running under wine, but I don't remember which. You'd also have to somehow make them crash, or send a scheduled kill signal in order for this to happen.

Can reproduce this bug according to description

Highlight effect highlights no window but focus of current window in panel transfers to previously selected window - tried with 'sleep && pkill' commands. So if mouse cursor isn't over some task in panel it doesn't highlighted as window but may be highlighted in panel

Plasma 5.13.5
Apps 18.08.1
Frameworks 5.50.0
Qt 5.11.2

Confirmed on KDE Neon Unstable.
Comment 5 Bharadwaj Raju 2021-05-12 06:55:18 UTC
Can't replicate on Plasma 5.22 with new behaviour of highlighting only on tooltip hover, not icon hover. Highlight effect is cancelled, and focus correctly transfers back (probably since the cursor isn't on the panel anymore).

Please reopen if problem persists on Plasma 5.22.
