In applications that have some form of pop-up window with its own minimize button such as synaptic, if I click the application's icon in the icons-only task manager while it is on focus (which minimizes the window of the application), the application doesn't minimize. It's only possible to minimize them by clicking the minimize icon of the pop-up window.

Steps to reproduce:
-Launch synaptic.
-Install/remove some package, apply changes.
-While the window with download/installation progress is open, try to minimize synaptic from the icons-only task manager.

Reproducible: always.

There is 'Minimize/Restore Window or Group' option in 'On middle-click' dropdown in Icons-only settings window

But that would take away whatever other functionality you have for middle click - in my case I set it to open a new instance, for example.

I can confirm. The same behavior occurs when Task Manager is used instead of icon-only. It's only possible to minimize synaptic by clicking the minimize button of the pop-up window as the reporter described.

Can reproduce with Dolphin while the "Create new folder" dialog is open, for example.

Looks like an old issue. Setting it to needs more info.
Please try with a newer version(plasma 5.23.5) and if this is not an issue any more let us know.
Bugs placed into NEEDSINFO status will receive a reminder if the ticket:

    Is at least 15 days old
    Has not received any comment within 15 days

If a bug remains in NEEDSINFO for another 15 days with no comment, it will be closed as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME.
If a bug remains in NEEDSINFO with a comment provided within less than 15 days, no action will be taken (as it does not meet the above criteria).

The originally described behavior now doesn't apply fully, but there's still an issue: if I try to minimize an application with a subwindow that has a minimize button of its own but which does not produce an additional task manager entry, then the **main** window will be minimized but **not** the sub-window (which cannot be minimized from the task manager since it has no entry there).

Can confirm that, but that's not really a bug per se.

The original bug seems to be fixed now.
