Description ghavamikia 2018-05-20 14:37:34 UTC
Since the update to 5.12.5, some problems have arisen which I presume is down to compositing issues, I'm using manjaro latest update, xcb, and lattedock 0.7.5. first to notice is the effects are not working even though selected, specifically wobbly windows and magic lamp, and alt-tab window switching animations are not usable, the latte panel animations are gone, no slide to hide/show and no parabolic zoom effect, and the programmed screen corner actions also only work for the left hand side but not the two right corners, finally on scrolling a page in any application or document there's a difinite horizontal tearing happening briefly... am I the only person this has happened to or is part of a recent rewrite and I should hold on till the next release...

Sorry, an update, I just downloaded the wayland session and logged in using it, the windowing effects I listed below are almost all back, it's a bit buggy and couple of crashes (I'll list a few that have probably been mentioned elsewhere, corner window actions not as responsive, application menu launcher on latte doesnot work on clicking, it just clicks through it to the underlying window, left click menu opens in a random part of the screen, latte dock crashes occaisionally requirin relogin, aesthetically the kirigami app windows like settings or okular judder too much on snap to maximise or downsizing or corner-dreg resizing), I like this puch to move toward wayland, I don;t expect x session to be updated, as long as it's a usable alternative if wayland is still buggy, which it is, I'll wait till July for 5.13 and latte 0.8 to try it out again

Given your description you have a broken graphics driver which is completely unrelated to the plasma update.

that's interesting thought thank you, to me it doesn't sound right, I'm not a technical person but I think it must be update related becasue of the temporal relation between the two, unless the update somehow broke the existing driver which probably isn't right, or else my drivers are incompatible with something new in the update , and therefore now 'broken', regardless I made sure I updated all the drivers I could via manjaro but no difference, and as noted, there is discrepency when switching to wayland, it works via wayland, as much as wayland so far works, so I would guess it's compostor related, no hassle though I have dualboot as a back up in event eveything breaks, I'm really happy with the way KDE is shaping up so far, thanks to you guys!

There are no changes in the compositor. The update cannot be related to it. You need to look somewhere else, I'm sorry.

Ah no worries man that's fair enough if it's not the compositor update at play, I'll see what the next updates bring, or maybe try a full reinstall, thanks for the quick replies!
