I'd really like it if, on importing an image as a file layer (specifically during click-and-drag, but maybe elsewhere if applicable) that the new layer were named after the image. For example, if I'm adding an image named "crab.png" to a larger image of sea creatures, I'd like the layer to be named crab. It's just a little quality of life thing :)

Yes, that could be done. We'd need to check whether we actually didn't, by user request, not do that, though.

It seems like this was completed at some point. I tried this on Krita 4.4.2 and the latest git master and both will set the layer name to the name of the image when importing a file as layer. I think this can marked as complete.
