Global menu with hidpi display

On a hidpi display (13" 4k monitor on my laptop) everything scales pretty well with the 2x scaling option, apart from plasma context menus and global menubar entries.
As you can see in the attachment, the icons and buttons are very very small and the padding around the text is ridiculously small. Font size is fine on the other hand.
This happens in global menus and when right-clicking on a plasma widget or the desktop. Right clicking within a KDE application produces much better looking results, leading me to believe that the issue is confined to plasma.
